Om konferencen:

24th EFC Annual General Assembly and Conference

Today more than half of the world’s population lives in cities, no doubt due to the fact that 70% of the world’s GDP is generated within urban areas. A further two billion people are expected to become city or urban dwellers in the next 30 years. This rapid growth in urbanisation brings many challenges, not least around housing, employment, education, cultural heritage, mobility, urban planning and the environment.

Foundations in Europe are no strangers to these challenges and are in fact intrinsically linked to cities and urban areas across the continent. Their independence and standing allow them to inject creative energy into developing more sustainable, socially and culturally inclusive and competitive towns and cities for future generations. However, in the current socio-economic context of Europe, more synergies and innovation are needed to ensure effective action on this multi-faceted and complex theme.

To explore these issues in depth, some 500 foundations and partners will convene in Copenhagen, Denmark, for the 24th EFC Annual General Assembly and Conference from 30 May – 1 June 2013. Specifically they will discuss the role that our sector can and should play to ensure a sustainable urban future.

As a smart and innovative city, Copenhagen will provide a perfect backdrop to learn about, share and debate issues surrounding urban development and sustainability as well as a range of pressing topics of interest to the sector. In addition, delegates will have the opportunity to network with their peers during informal social events and will get an insight into the work of Danish foundations through several organised visits.
